Since New Year’s Eve is a little over a week away, it’s time to put together the perfect outfit to ring in 2014. Those head-to-toe sparkly outfits may seem the most fun, but they’re not flattering on all body types. Glitzy dresses aren’t the only route to take when looking glamorous for your holiday festivities. Finding the best dress for your body type will allow you to look effortlessly elegant while you ring in the new year!

Pear-Shaped
The pear shape is the most common female proportion, meaning that the widest part of the body is around the hips. The key is to elongate your body when dressing yourself. You want to show off your curves without over accentuating them. Look for a dress with eye-catching details on the top half. This will draw attention and balance out your curves. You can also opt for a fit-and-flare dress that cinches at the waist.

Hourglass
Another common female figure is the hourglass shape. This shape describes women whose bust and hips are the same size, with a narrow waist. When dressing for an hourglass figure, the goal is to show off your tiny waist. Avoid anything bulky, especially in the chest area, as this will only create a top-heavy look. Choose a dress with a V-neck, or look for one that is belted to accentuate your small waist.

Petite & Slim
If you’re working with a slim and petite figure, a mini dress will show off all your best assets. A perk of being petite is that a mini dress likely won’t be too short for your smaller proportions. If you want to appear taller, choose a festive dress in a solid color that hits at the knee. Try to avoid fabrics that tend to be puffy, like chiffon, as this may make you look smaller.
