Flair: New Years Resolutions
Our fashion columnist offers five stylish resolutions to start your new year off on the right (and fashionable) foot.

It’s that time of year again when we all promise to be our best self, starting January first. Many self-help sessions, organizing books and gym memberships are bought as a way to jump-start our ambitions and to keep us on track 20 days out. Let me offer one more for your list. It’s one of my favorite resolutions from 2012: Time for You! Think about the little things you can do that help “reset” a bad day and restart you on a fresh note. These aren’t the items that can be blocked on a calendar, but the little tasks that a best friend can identify about you and make the extra effort to do for you on those down and out or sick days. For me, music first comes to mind. It pumps me up with I am tired, helps me go an extra mile when running, and calms me down at the end of the day. I am much happier having jazz playing in the background while cooking or writing. Maybe for you it’s walking out the door after wiping down your kitchen counters. So you can come home to a clean surface.

Let me know on my Facebook page which of the Five Stylish resolutions you will try in 2013. Are you looking for more resolutions ideas? You can find 10 more on my blog.
1. Learn to Open a Champagne Bottle – Without wasted overflow and without fear of flying corks to puncture eyes and windows!
2. Learn to Tie a Man’s Tie – A sexy treat for your guy, and a helpful trick for assisting your son or nephew.
3. Wear Eye Cream Everyday, Twice a Day – Regardless if you are 22 or 62, you need to take care of this delicate area. Plus wear sunglasses to prevent more damage.
4. Try Textured Tights – Printed tights have been around a couple of seasons and have staying power. They look great on all ages and in all climates. Wear them to punch up a plain colored dress or skirt: Look for animal print, argyle, polka dots and stripes.
5. Be Fashionable First (instead of fashionably late). Translation: stop procrastinating and take care of YOU! Consider meditation, a new cardio workout class, reading classical books and taking a training class that inspires and expands your knowledge.
