In 2012, this pocket-sized powerhouse not only launched a successful business, she also went toe-to-toe with the big "C." Learn more about her personal and professional triumphs.

Cincy Chic's Social Woman of the Year, Nidhi Bedi

We asked you, our readers, for your nominations. Our staff scoured through the hundreds of applicants, and we selected the following local lady as one of our 2012 Women of the Year. Find out why she's deserving of the chicest title in town.

It's been a big year for Nidhi Bedi. Not only does she produce more than 150 weddings annually with her family business Elements Conference and Event Centre, she also runs a limo service and catering company.

While running these businesses, she also produced two of the biggest bridal shows in the Tri-State this year, which have had a huge impact on the local wedding industry. In addition, earlier this year, Bedi launched A Bride's Mafia, a one stop shop in wedding planning. "The mission of the business is to help guide brides in making their wedding day perfect," says Bedi. "It's a concept I've wanted to build for a very long time."

But while building her dream business, she was also facing a nightmare. "I had just put on our biggest show back in March," she recalls. "Shortly after, I started feeling sick and I could tell something wasn't right." She went in for surgery the morning after the launch party of their Glendale location. After the surgery, she learned that she had thyroid cancer.

Bedi was determined to make sure the businesses never were impacted as she focused on improving her health. "I had just had one of the best years of my life and I wasn't going to let this make a dent it it. And it didn't," she says. "It made me a much stronger person." She strategically enacted a board so her vendors and brides were always covered. "At the time, we never knew what was going on but when she finally told us we all stepped up to make sure she knew we would be there as much as she was there for us," said A Bride's Mafia board. "She never missed a board meeting. She went through surgeries, treatments, and some low times, but she survived and is a huge idol for us."

Today, she gives back to cancer awareness initiatives, and also takes time to appreciate loved ones. "I spend time with family and friends," she says. "But most of all, I now chase my dreams and know that anytime I put my mind to it, nothing is impossible."

Bedi says she's especially thankful for her brother, Jay Bedi. "He has been the my biggest supporter since we came in the business," she says. "He brings the ideas and I throw in the creativity. It's a collaboration that works well."

The Bedis are quite the dynamic duo, too, as they've been recently recognized with several awards, such as The Best of the Knot, Bride's Choice Award and the Maria C. Blake award for their service to the community though Women Helping Women. But what makes Bedi most proud are the accolades from her clients. "When someone compliments us or when someone who has been in the industry longer asks us for advice," she explains, "I know we are doing something right."

Bedi says she's looking forward to making 2013 an even bigger and better year. "A Bride's Mafia will be hitting national markets starting in 2013, with some big things in the works." she says. "In 2013, I want The Elements Conference and Event Centre and A Bride's Mafia names to really make their mark. To show everyone why we are different. For our service, product and reputation to really shine."
