We chat with Porter Castleberry of J.Hilburn about the unique business concept, how he got involved and the latest menswear trends that'll help the man in your life celebrate the holidays in style.

Menswear is not only a passion for Porter Castleberry, it's also a profession.

 

After owning a menswear store - Stocks Gentlemen's Clothier in Hyde Park - to now representing J.Hilburn, Castleberry boasts nearly two decades of retail menswear experience.

 

What is J.Hilburn? It's a men's clothing company that offers exclusive shirt and trouser fabrics, luxury performance knits, and a top-shelf accessories line that marries the best in handmade designs and European quality.

 

Founded in 2007 by Hil Davis and Veeral Rathod, two Dallas financial industry workers, the company’s sales quickly rose from $1 million in 2008 to $8 million in 2010, a year in which it sold 60,000 shirts (starting at $89). Today, just five years after launching, it's the largest custom shirt maker in the world.

 

J.Hilburn garments are made from the the world's finest mills, many of which are based in Italy. But you won't pay the high-end price you'll see at other luxury retailers. "Garments are delivered to you at a value that is impossible for traditional retailers to match," touts the company's website. How do they do it? By cutting out the unnecessary costs of brick and mortar retail stores by selling direct to the customer.

 

The business is based on the concept that custom menswear starts with a personal fitting by one of their growing number of more than 2,000 style consultants. These J.Hilburn representatives are trained and certified to measure you for an unmatched custom fit. Castleberry is one of the select few consultants based in the Tri-State.

 

"My understanding of clothing and the details to perfect a man's wardrobe is what has allowed me to be successful in the clothing business and gain a trusted following," says Castleberry. "I meet with you, learn your lifestyle, make recommendations to bring you the best quality menswear, for the best value possible, all on a schedule that works for you."

 

Castleberry says he typically meets his clients for lunch, coffee or at their workplace for an initial fitting. He then sets up a unique measurement profile and help create clothing that is fit and styled exclusively for them. Not only do they offer a 100% fit guarantee, but Castleberry will also keep the information on file to make future orders a breeze.

 

J.Hilburn just launched a new site to make online ordering easier as well. Introduced in June, this new site not only allows for custom orders such as shirts and belts, but it also offers style-inspiring lookbooks and helpful resources like this holiday gift giving guide.
