Bras for a Cause
Knickers of Hyde Park decked out for "Think Pink" Who says you can't shop and learn about breast cancer awareness at the same time?
The "Think Pink Party" at Knickers of Hyde Park on Nov. 1 aimed to do just that. "Breast Cancer Awareness is very important to us because so many of our customers have been touched by breast cancer in some way," says Jenalyn Schneider, Knickers' founder and president.
Knickers hosted this posh and pink party - complete with shopping, refreshments, raffle prizes and fun - and donated a portion of all sales to the Pink Ribbon Girls (PRG). The event also honored PRG founder, Tracie Metzger.
Schneider selected Metzger and PRG to support through this event because its unique mission: to provide personalized support to young women throughout all phases of the breast cancer journey with education, outreach, awareness, and one-on-one support to women and their families.
"As we were working on the idea for the party," Schneider explains, "we approached MARA USA, a new lingerie company owned by two women here in Cincinnati and Dhani Jones' BowTie Cause to collaborate with us." Additionally, Awakenings Coffee & Wine provided the venue and Gabby's of Wyoming provided the hors d'oeuvres.
Each $20 ticket provided the attendees with complimentary wine, food, music, a pair of MARA USA panties and a raffle entry for a BowTie Cause necklace, and other gifts provided by local businesses.
But it wasn't just about the party. It was about raising awareness for breast cancer, says Schneider. "Being a lingerie boutique, with a special focus on the art of bra fitting," she adds, "our store is in the perfect position to help women become more aware of self-health in conjunction with breast care." Schneider says her staff is highly experienced with regular bra fittings, and it's a natural extension to provide post-surgical fittings as well. "So many of our customers have either been touched by breast cancer personally or has known a friend or family member who has," she adds. "We have women tell us every day how much better they feel, inside and out, with a great fitting bra. So for us, it is a natural fit and we strive to help as many women as we can to look more beautiful and feel their best."
This event is just one of many fashion-philanthropy fused events hosted by Knickers of Hyde Park. Other events include Knickers' next event, "The Annual Knickers of Hyde Park Pajama Drive" on Nov. 15, which benefits the YWCA Battered Women’s Shelter. From 6:30 to 8:30pm, you can wear your pajamas and bring in a donation, enjoy popcorn, punch and movies. Plus, bring in gently worn pajamas and sleepwear in exchange for 20% off a new set.
