More and more people are becoming aware of the fuel they put into their bodies. But with so many options out there, choosing healthy foods has gotten more and more confusing. Jen Beck, nutrition and weight loss coach at Advanced Wellness Coaching is stepping up to fill in the knowledge gap about health foods with her grocery store tours. "I take the guess work out of healthy eating," says Beck.

Beck teaches the average Joe all there is to know about eating healthy and reading a label. Each tour guest will walk away with a renewed and up-to-date knowledge of health foods and labels. The tour walks through each section of the grocery from produce to frozen foods while Beck explains the best foods to fuel your body. "We discuss how to choose the best produce, why organic vs. conventional, how to store produce to maximize freshness, etc." says Beck. Attendees will also take a Healthy Shopping Made Easy Guide so that the information made available in the tour is available for future reference as well.

You don't have to wait until your tour to begin buying healthier foods. Beck has a few tips for the shopper who wants to begin buying healthy today. "Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, that is where the fresh foods are," she says. Also, "Read the ingredients and if there are things you cannot pronounce or recognize, don't eat it"

If you're a shopper on a budget thinking that healthy and organic foods are out of your reach, Beck has good news for you. "This is the exact reason why I start people at Kroger," says Beck, "it is a place many people shop already and it allows them to see healthier options without the sticker shock." According to Beck, organic produce here can be purchased her within 10-15 cents of non-organic prices. "The biggest impact on the budget will come from buying organic meats," explains Beck, "this is also one of the most important places to invest in your health."

Beck hosts two to three grocery store tours every month at the Kroger in either Blue Ash or Liberty Township. Additional tours can be scheduled if there are four confirmed participants, The traditional group tour costs $27 per person and an individual/family private tour is $149.
