Family-Friendly Competition Fantasy football might have your husband hooked during the season, but one local company is helping you and your whole family get in the game.  After seeing one of their friends and his family playing fantasy football together, now-local man David Tasner and his friend David Miller came up with an innovative idea. Their friend loved the quality time with his family but hated the inappropriate advertisements for beer, condoms and erectile dysfunction drugs. Tasner and Miller's solution? Family Fantasy Sports.
Specifically geared toward families, this site lets everyone from 8 year olds to 80 year olds enjoy the fun of fantasy football. So you can go up against your kids, nieces, nephews, husband, boyfriend or girlfriends to have some competitive fun.
To get started, you can sign up as an individual or a league at no cost. Each league consists of eight teams, so you can sign up with seven friends or be placed in a league with seven other individuals.
Once you sign up, your league has a draft, which lets you pick the players for your team. The players are all real-life players on NFL teams, so the fantasy football season coincides with the NFL season. After you select your players, you choose who will "play" for your fantasy team each week. The performance of the real-life players you choose will set your ranking for your fantasy team.
Family Fantasy Sports makes the prize more than just pride with their "Team of the Week" and other prizes. These prizes provide college contributions to a child's 529 savings plan to encourage education. "We've given away almost $100,000 in college savings prizes," Tasner says.
The giving continues with the ability to play for charity. Family Fantasy Sports has teamed up with non-profit organizations locally and nationally to allow players to make a difference through their fun.
The next season won't start until September, but until then, you can follow the Web site's blogs, including a "Grown Up's Blog" and "Louie's Corner for Kids." The site also follows the NFL training to provide a Wednesday night radio show.
While Family Fantasy Sports only features football, they are looking to expand to baseball and basketball in the future. "Our goals is to help families do fun things together," Tasner says.
