Beauty Beat: Unique Wedding Salon Services
Today's brides expect more from their wedding salon services - more pampering, more beauty and more relaxation. We tell you about the unique trends and packages coming to a big day near you.
Weddings are such a paradox. They're one of the most action-packed, costly and hectic days of your life, but you're supposed to look beautiful, fresh and relaxed every moment of that big day. Because, hello, the fate of your photographs that your kids' kids will see are on the line.
We talked with the beauty experts at Avalon Salon and Day Spa in Hyde Park about big day beauty tips and trends. Rosina Luca, stylist and marketing manager at Avalon, says, "Beauty comes from the inside out, so you have to start there first." She recommends a relaxing massage or calming facial the day before the big day. "Hot stone massages are popular in the winter, and we're getting more requests for the myofascial release massage," says Luca.
"And the bride isn't the only one that wants to look beautiful at the wedding, so we're seeing many grooms and mothers come in for services," says Luca. "You have to think, they're being photographed a lot and it's they're big day, too!"

Luca says another trend is off-site accommodations. "It's a busy day, and not everyone can or wants to coordinate a trip to the salon for everyone," she says. "So, we developed packages for the bride that wants us to come to her and make her day a little less hectic."
They do charge extra - $20 added to original service price - but Luca says it helps the big day run smoother. "And with the decreased travel and exposure to weather, their makeup and hair looks more fresh and put-together," Luca adds.
And the last trend Luca is noticing is an after-hours run-through party. "It takes the guess-work out of how everyone's hair and makeup will look on the wedding day," says Luca. "And we make it a fun, relaxed and enjoyable environment for all involved." For these, Avalon opens up the salon after hours just for your group, and will include refreshments, cheese blocks, fruit and any added extras you need at your request.
