Some of the owners of the hottest boutiques around Cincinnati lend readers a few suggestions on what will be in this season, where to find it and how to wear it. Click here for a winter fashion must-read.

Winter is upon us, and for many it symbolizes spending time with loved ones, enjoying winter festivities and cozying up to the fire. Fashion-wise, though, winter can be a tough season for which to dress. Everyone wants to look good, but many times, staying warm means adding unnecessary bulk to your waist with layers.

Knowing how tricky it is to look stylishly warm during the winter months, we turned to several of Cincinnati's top boutique owners for their suggestions of what every woman should wear this season. Below are the top 10 winter trend picks from four stylish boutique owners in town.

Several of our boutique owners stressed the need for a fabulous skirt, in pencil or pleated styles. Designer and owner of a self-titled boutique, Amy Kirchen sells a great pencil skirt and highly recommends it. "Whether it's camel or black, owning one will add a very chic piece to your everyday wardrobe," Kirchen says.

Liz Hilberg of Monkee's of Madeira agrees a skirt is a must this season, but suggests one with a little more edge. "This season leather skirts range from classic pencil styles to feminine pleated styles and can be paired with any blouse a woman already owns," Hilberg says.

Statement Rings
Statement jewelry has been around for a while, but Sloane Boutique owner Duru Armagan still says she loves to complete her outfits with statement rings. "My favorite thing to do after getting completely dressed is add the perfect statement jewelry piece, and right now I'm all about chunky rings," says Armagan. She sells one-of-a-kind rings from Turkish designer Cemoka at her boutique in Over-the-Rhine.

Gold Jewelry
Speaking of jewelry, several of our boutique owners are going crazy over gold this season. "There is a rush for gold! Anything gold, from watches, rings or necklaces are a must," says Kirchen, who sells gold and rose gold pieces at her Milford boutique.

Slip Top
Leggings and tights are red hot this season, but before becoming a fashion don't, you need to know that wearing them as pants is a big no. Alison Head of Three French Hens in Hyde Park sells different styles of slip tops to help complete that layering look. "A slip top is a layering tool to help make our tops look longer and to provide enough coverage in the back for a leggings look," says Head. "It is all about layering this season, and Three French Hens has several different styles for that."

Cold weather means boot season. Boots don't need to be big, bulky and ugly to be functional for the drab weather. Hilberg says she believes boots in the color family of taupe are going to be the it-thing in footwear. "This color is big this winter, because it goes with everything and can easily be dressed up or down," Hilberg says.

Another boot trend we're seeing lots of this season is cowboy boots. "The classic, rugged brown cowboy boot is still very popular, but many companies are adding embellishment that makes the classic a little dressier and much more interesting. My favorite brand that does this very well while still making a great boot is Old Gringo," Hilberg says.

Sequins
Sequins are everywhere right now and can be seen from UGG boots to fedora hats, but Sloane Boutique has the perfect little number to get you through holiday parties. "I picked this Ali Ro Sequins dress because of its dramatic shoulders and super sexy figure. It's perfect for New Year's Eve or any special night out," says Armagan.

A Fantastic Clutch
What girl doesn't need an adorable clutch? Kirchen sells gorgeous clutches that start at $20 and are perfect for any occasion. "Whether you're going out to lunch or to a cocktail event, you need to invest in a great clutch - something that is versatile and that reflects your personal style," says Kirchen.

Cape Coat
Winter coats are a must, but they don't need to be ugly. Give your duds a bit of flair with a cape coat. "These coats are a big trend this winter, but in a classic fabric and color, they are timeless. They're also a great alternative to the pea coat that every woman already owns," says Hilberg.

Scarves
The perfect scarf is another winter fashion must this season. "Find a super scarf that you can grab with almost any outfit that will pull it all together," says Head. "They are showing scarves with browns, blacks and grays in them that help accomplish this. Also, the infinity scarf has been a lot of fun."

These blast-from-the-past shades are popping up in fashion everywhere, and you can get your hands on the perfect pair at Sloane Boutique. "The House of Harlow's 'Chelsea' are my favorite sunglasses trend," says Armagan. "They're bold and sexy. The Kardashians love them, and who doesn't love the Kardashians?"
