The path to becoming a contemporary men's shirt wear designer has most definitely not been a traditional one for Jonathan Mezibov. He earned a liberal arts degree from Tufts University in Medford Massachusetts, and a law degree from New York Law School, while never actually planning to become a lawyer.

"Although I received my law degree and passed the bar, I never really intended to practice law. I was very fortunate to get a couple of jobs in the apparel industry while in school, but as much as I loved fashion and clothing, I wasn't sure at the time exactly what I wanted to do. I always had it in the back of my mind that I would attend graduate school. I felt that law school would be a great extended education and that I could apply the skill set I would learn to whatever industry I later decided to pursue," says Mezibov.

Even while holding these types of jobs during college, it never really occurred to the young Mezibov to think of an actual career in designing until later in life. During his teenage years, his zealous desire for fashion led him to do things to satisfy this need early on. Whether it was sewing suspender buttons into trousers for a high school formal, watching "Fashion File," or thrift store and vintage shopping while traveling, Mezibov always found a way of working his uniquely elegant personal style into his life.

After law school, Mezibov questioned his desire for a career that would allow him to do what he loved, and would also make him happy. The answer had clearly been there all along. Jonathan Mezibov, the menswear line was born, and the designer's vision was fully realized. In the brand's own words, "Jonathan Mezibov is a line of contemporary men's shirtings that combines American sensibility with international élan and elegance. 1209KROMBHOLZ.gif

Drawing upon the most influential of menswear traditions, from classic British tailoring and European luxury and refinement to iconic American work wear and military apparel, each shirt is uniquely considered and thoughtfully designed." When asked which American designer he finds most inspirational, Mezibov responds, "I would be remiss if I didn't say Ralph Lauren was a huge inspiration. What he has accomplished is truly amazing. I actually had a photo of him on my wall in college – hmm, another clue!? I love his mix of styles and heritages which have been blended to create a truly signature look."

Jonathan Mezibov Fall/Winter 2011 was recently unveiled at Cincinnati Fashion Week. The look was masculine, substantial and rich in color and texture. Mezibov says the theme was "Western Luxe". When designing the line, the designer obviously had a touch of Paul Newman, Robert Redford, the old "Spaghetti Westerns" and a little bit of "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" in mind, but with a much more refined, European and international attitude. The shirts are extremely sophisticated, utilizing only the highest quality materials, and as with all of Mezibov's shirts, they're produced with a precise attention to detail, and always in limited quantities to exacting standards.

Having finally settled in a career that satisfies his ongoing romance with elegant design and sophisticated style, Mezibov's future strategy is a simple one. All he wants is to "just continue doing what I love, and to make clothing that guys really enjoy and respond to". With the positive reaction at Cincinnati Fashion Week, he is most certainly on the right path. Jonathan Mezibov can be found online at www.jonathanmezibov.com.
