: The Glass Zipper is located at 6058 Montgomery Road in Pleasant Ridge. How did you guys get started?
Qiana Sheppard:
It all starts with a vision. I love making women feel great about how they look. Plus, I wanted to open a store to make it easier for hard working women to be able to shop for the looks and brands that they love, without having to pay the high price.

Cincy Chic: You carry some incredible designers in your store. How do you decide what to bring in?
Sheppard:
Fashion is constantly evolving and changing every day. I am always researching to find the new "it" thing. Fashion magazines and the internet have a lot to offer. But, more importantly, I listen to what my customers suggest. They are my fashion consultants and I want to make them happy!

Cincy Chic: How do you set yourself apart from other boutiques?
Sheppard:
We are a consignment boutique so we carry new and "pre-loved" items. Consignment is like a business partnership, and we are your partner. You clean out your closet and bring in your items. We select the items we can sell and display in our store. Once they sell, we split the selling price with you 50/50. We have a computerized system so we can track your sales accurately and get you paid. No account setup fees and online access to track your account balance. The look and feel of our store is like the closet of your most fashionable friend, where you can shop in style and comfort.

Cincy Chic: It's places like The Glass Zipper that really help set trends around the city. What are some of the big fashion trends right now that shoppers can find at The Glass Zipper?
Sheppard:
Sophisticated glamour from the 70s is back. Think one-piece jumpsuits and high-waist trouser pants with elegant blouses and a skinny belt. Look both trendy and thinner when you choose a skinny belt. The Katharine Hepburn influence is still popular with tailored blazers. Dresses and skirts remain must-haves. Maxi dresses are very "in" this year. These floor-sweeping dresses are very versatile. Dress it up with a belt and sophisticated jewelry, or wear it casual with some cute sandals. Bold colors, especially orange and vivid prints and stripes are fun this summer.

Cincy Chic: What is your favorite part about owning a boutique in Cincinnati?
Sheppard:
As a native, I love the city and the interaction with everyone that walks through my doors. Fashion is about looking good and feeling good. I love to see someone who might not be having that great of a day come in and find that perfect something that changes their whole demeanor. And then when they find it costs a fraction of the retail price, it's just icing on the cake!
