Flair Trend Report: Spring Summer 2011
From new silhouettes, prints and colors, our style expert has eight great trends that will heat up your spring and summer wardrobe.

Stella McCartney Spring Summer 2011 collection exhibits several new trends - such as minimalism, stark white, and fruit prints - on the fashion horizon.

Modern Lady - Last season, Mad Men’s popularity created a ladylike movement toward full skirts and polished looks. This spring we're seeing sleeker silhouettes with the same flawless taste. Think Sheath dresses with leather detailing or with boldly beaded necklines. Another favorite is a slimming, belted coat dress with a feminine handbag.

Minimalism – It’s one of the biggest buzzwords for spring/summer, but many struggle with how to achieve the look. Try monochromatic outfits in tan or cream without fussy details. The look is relaxed and understated, but still provides a punch of style.

Flatforms - exactly what the name evokes: shoes with a uniformly tall platform wedge, giving you height without wearing a pitched heel.  Other note worthy shoes include: clogs, wedges, oxfords (with and without laces) and sky high heels in patent or soft kid leather.cc_instory.gif

Long Lean Legs – look great after all the months hidden under wool. To increase their appeal, buy a neutral colored shoe (named Nude, Adobe or Blush) that matches your skin tone and wear with a patterned dress or colorful skirt.  If your legs tan in the summer, your summer neutral will be more caramel or brown and your winter shade may be ivory or khaki.

Vibrant Colors – Bright colors are everywhere, especially orange and Honeysuckle (a dynamic reddish pink named color of the year by Pantone). If an entirely vibrant outfit is too much for you, stick with accessories to add the color, such as shoes, purses, lipstick, necklaces and nail polish!

Stark White - think pants, jeans, dresses and everything in between.  The look is clean, crisp and terrific with or without a tan. Grab a Nautical top, they are everywhere this season and team these traditional navy and white stripes with Kelly green, red and yellow accents.

Tight and Covered - this spring we are seeing longer looks mixed with tight, such as tunics over skinny pants or body forming tops with floor-grazing hemline Maxi skirts. Pick which portion of your body is best and flaunt it.

Fruit Fashion – fruit on clothing started small, but we are seeing more and more cherries, apples, bananas and pears on shoes, sweaters, purses and jewelry. In small doses they are cute and quirky, personally, I’m not sure this trend will last.
