Ten years ago, Marianne Spain lost her hair to breast cancer chemotherapy treatments. Today, she has a "hot mama" mane sure to turn heads at her daughter's upcoming wedding, thanks to a makeover she just got at Mitchell's Salon & Day Spa.

Spain nominated herself and won this month's "Monthly Makeover" from Mitchell's Salon saying, "After chemo and menopause, my hair has gotten very thin. My daughter is getting married in September and I want to be a 'hot mama' of the bride. [I] would love a makeover and some direction!"

This "Monthly Makeover" program randomly selects one lucky lady to win a complimentary hair and makeup makeover at Mitchell's Salon. The winner is featured in a future issue of Cincy Chic. Click here to learn more about the makeover program and enter to win!

Spain visited the Kenwood Mitchell's and
met with stylist Melissa Brown, who started out with the color. "We wanted to go darker to really bring out her skin030711ADVERTORIAL_AFTER.jpg tones and eye color," explains Brown. "But because her hair is fine and thin, we needed to add dimension, so I put in a 'piecey' highlight."

Brown says the highlights will also help camouflage when Spain's grays grow back. As for the cut, Spain wanted to keep it long, but Brown explained "the shorter it is the thicker and fuller it looks and feels. So, we went with a bob length."

For styling, Brown used a Bumble & bumble gel ($27.50) on the root area and the Bumble & bumble Thickening Spray ($28.60) on the ends. With a medium round brush, Brown worked in the product to get height, especially at the crown. Then, she took a flat iron just around the perimeter to modernize it. She gave it a final spritz with Bumble & bumble Spray de Mode ($28.60).

After her hair was looking fab, she visited Macy Meldon, esthetician and makeup artist at Mitchell's Salon. Meldon started with her eyebrows. She waxed, shaped and trimmed them following her natural brow shape. Meldon then used the Jane Iredale Bitty Brow Kit ($28.60) and filled them in with the Cola Blonde color to enhance the brow.

Then, for a base on the face, she applied Jane
Iredale Liquid Mineral Foundation ($50.60) in a natural-hued Warm Sienna color, and set it with powder. "She has beautiful blue eyes, so I enhanced them with Supernova, blending with some brown," says Meldon. Because she focused on the eyes, Spain got a nice MitchellsInstoryGIF.gifnatural lip.

Spain was ecstatic when she saw her new look in the mirror. She said she couldn't wait for September to get here to walk her hot mama hair down the aisle!
