Monthly Mitchell's Makeover: Staci Burkhart
Winning a makeover from Mitchell's Salon & Day Spa not only turned this nursing student's bad day around - it did a 180 on her entire look, too.

A few weeks ago, Staci Burkhart was down on her luck. This nursing student who's earning her Master's degree had a computer crash, car break down and her furnace fail - all during exam week.

"I was stressed but money wasn't there to treat myself to something nice," says Burkhart.

Her luck quickly turned around when she found out she won this month's "Monthly Makeover" from Mitchell's Salon & Day Spa. This "Monthly Makeover" program randomly selects one lucky lady to win a complimentary hair and makeup makeover at Mitchell's. The winner is featured in a future issue of Cincy Chic. So, Burkhart visited the Kenwood Mitchell's and met with stylist Greg Faith. Her hair was recently cut one length for Locks of Love. "It made her hair thick and unmoveable," says Faith. "I perked up her overall appearance through movement in cutting."

He razored the cut, warmed up her 022811_4.jpgcomplexion with simple brown highlights, deepened her base color and used Oribe Crème ($32*) to improve her body texture.

For style, Faith hand-wrapped pin curls. He scrunched and dried the curls for a few minutes. Then, Faith removed the pin curls, applied more creme, continued scrunching and then used a flat iron to define a few curls around the face. He gave it a final spritz with Bumble & bumble Spray de Mode ($28.60).

Shawna Nenadov, makeup artist at Mitchell's Salon, then took the reins. She used a Jane Iredale peach colored eyeshadow
base to even out the eyelid and prevent the shadow 022811_2.jpgfrom creasing. She used the "Allure" eyeshadow all over the lid to pop the eye color. Then, Nenadov used "Supernova" to add a little dramatic twist to the eye.

She lined the lids with a dark brown liquid liner in a very thin line. "I used a thin line to not 'close' the eye and make it appear smaller," says Nenadov. "Every woman wants big, beautiful eyes."

She applied Liquid Mineral Foundation ($50.60) to even out the skin tone and add radiance to the skin. Nenadov brushed on a "Whisper Blush" tone and applied an "Iced Mocha" lip gloss color. Nenadov used a great trick - filled in Burkhart's lips with liner versus lipstick - to prevent bleed and make the color last longer. Then, she set the whole look off with the Jane Iredale Hydration Mist ($19.25). "It makes the look fresh and supple," she adds.

Nenadov spun Burkhart around in the chair to give her the first glimpse at her new look and she was almost speechless.

"I have a passion for taking care of others, but it's so nice doing something for myself for once," says Burkhart. "Plus, my new polished look will give me the edge I need to find a great job when I graduate."
