Finding the Venue for You
One local woman is working to make finding a venue less of a hassle. Read on to find out how you'll be able to use her creation to simplify the process and still get your individualized needs met.

On her honeymoon in May 2009, local wedding industry professional Jocelyn Cates came up with a novel concept. She had been working to sell event space for a local venue. "During that time I realized the abundance of available dates that were discounted to encourage bookings, but the public remained unaware of these possible discounts," Cates says. "VenueAgent was born to help venue owners publicize their 'hard to book' dates at a discount."

While it is still in development, VenueAgent will have a formal launch to the public once everything is complete. "You will see a lot of VenueAgent at the Summer bridal showcases," Cates says.

To help make it all possible, VenueAgent recently won the top prize in CincyTech's Cincinnati Innovates competition. "I had given birth to a beautiful baby girl exactly seven days before the awards ceremony," Cates says. "You could say it was a very exciting week!"

The Cincinnati Innovates $25,000 prize is going toward some re-design work of the system and the rest will be used to launch and market VenueAgent when ready. "Thanks to CincyTech, VenueAgent can make these design changes and launch our business more effectively," Cates says.

Once the site is up and running, Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky customers will be able to enter the number of guests they plan to have at their event and a date range for the event. The results will show discounted spaces available for the criteria entered, and then the customer will be able to select additional preferences to narrow their options. "VenueAgent is very similar to a lot of web companies (think Hotels.com), yet completely original to the event industry," Cates says.

Cates is also looking to expand to other markets in late 2011 and 2012. "VenueAgent has all the potential to achieve the kind of success in the wedding and event industry that has been seen with The Knot and Wedding Wire for example," Cates says. "It's hard to say how far and how fast we will move. It's very exciting!"

For more information about VenueAgent, check out VenueAgent.com. "Anyone who is expecting an engagement ring or who may plan any kind of event should be on look out for our launch. We can save them up to 60 percent off!" Cates says. "Additionally, if you’re a venue owner, you should contact us right away to list your venue."
