Chic Spotlight: Salon Beck's Sue Beck Currie
The new year is here, and
Cincy Chic gets the scoop on how you can start off on the right foot (with a pedicure) or even on the right strand (with an update for your locks). Read on to learn more.
Cincy Chic: The new year is here, so what are you doing to make a fresh start for 2011?

Sue Beck Currie, owner and creative director of Salon Beck: The new year always brings a sense of a new beginning. I like to take some time to reflect on all of the wonderful blessings in my life. I also set goals at the beginning of each year related to Salon Beck, a few personal goals and goals related to our family.

Cincy Chic: As this is for our Revamp, Renew, Revitalize issue, what tips do you have for readers looking to revamp their look?

Beck: For hair, adding bangs is an easy change to make. Strong bangs that are cut past the corner of the eyes will not only cover up wrinkles, but will bring out your eyes and cheekbones.

Glamorous waves are also a popular style and can be achieved by creating a far side part and tightly curling hair. Finish with a strong hairspray and tuck one side of your hair behind your ear.

Finally, tousled curls are also an easy way to revitalize your look. Hair should be smooth on top and textured on the bottom for a beautiful look.

With makeup, be sure to add a primer under your tinted moisturizer with SPF (to protect your skin from the wind and cold). Red lips and nail color is also an exciting revamp to enhance your look.

Cincy Chic: What are some of the latest hair and nail trends Salon Beck offers to help in the transformation?

Beck: Permanent Polish Pedicures are something our clients really love. The permanent polish dries completely so you can put your socks and boots on before you leave the salon. The polish lasts for two months, allowing you to have a special treat with your beautifully painted toes.

Along with strong bangs, color is also a must for your hair. Try a two or three dimensional color treatment or a light-medium-dark combination to enhance your natural beauty. Pixie haircuts are also one the latest trends that many of our clients are trying. The right cut can be worn several different ways when using different hair products.

For makeup, lashes are an instant eye opener! We can put lashes on, and it will brighten your entire face.

Cincy Chic: Gel polish is all the rage right now, so what are some of the more popular shades Salon Beck clients are sporting on their nails?

Beck: We are so pleased that the gel polish line we carry has over 100 different shades to choose from. Our hottest colors right now are neutral colors, a red to match lips and any dark charcoal grey colors.

For toes, our clients love a bright red. It is a like a present to themselves to see their toes in beautiful colors. So many people do not take the time to have a pedicure in the winter, since they are not wearing sandals. We have found that those who take the time to get a pedicure and have a fun color on their toes enjoy seeing their feet and like the surprise of knowing they have taken a few moments to do something special just for them.

Cincy Chic: Outside of the salon, what do you like to do for fun?

Beck: Fresh air is a must. I try to get outside every day for at least 15 minutes. It is easy to take a walk, play in the snow with your kids, take a walk around the streets in Downtown Cincinnati. Fresh air keeps my brain clear and helps me regroup on what is important in my life. I am also fortunate to have a wonderful gym located in our building, and I try to get there on a regular basis, either at the beginning or ending of a day.

Cincy Chic: What do you love most about Cincinnati?

Beck: Fountain Square is one of my favorite places. I love all of the activities that happen all year long. There is an energy that I get whenever I visit Fountain Square. It is a warm, welcoming place and each season has a different feel to it. From ice skating in the winter, admiring the flowers and people watching in the spring and summer to catching a few breaths of crisp fall air, the Square is where I go to take a break and relax.
