Ask Patty: Intimacy after Cancer

Ask Patty: Intimacy after Cancer
When it comes to cancer, intimacy and sexual health can be affected too. One program works to reverse this trend and provides a safe platform for women living with cancer.

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer more than five years ago and am currently in remission. I'm so thankful to have battled this disease and to have such supportive friends, family and husband, but I'm struggling with the effects of cancer on my intimate life, and my doctor doesn't seem receptive to my questions.

It seems like there is so much of a movement around finding a cure for cancer, but there is little resources for restoring quality of life after diagnosis. How can I get more information on this issue?"
— Kerri, (West Chester, Ohio)

Patty:

This is a cause that is extremely important to me. We have had several Pure Romance consultants as well as women on our corporate staff diagnosed with various forms of cancer, so this is a topic that hits very close to home. I actually do a big event for more than 350 women from the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), Living Beyond Breast Cancer and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Conference. During the annual event, I have heard similar stories to your own. Many of these women talked about how there was extreme discomfort when approaching their doctors regarding intimacy issues during and after cancer. They also talked about how often times, when they did work up enough courage, they were dismissed by their doctors and left with little resources or answers.

Pure Romance launched its Sensuality, Sexuality, Survival (SSS) program to act as a resource for you and women like you who are seeking to restore their overall quality of life (which includes their self-image and intimate relationships). Its Pink Ribbon Line provides safe product offerings with original formulas that do not nauseate or irritate the sensitivities generally associated with chemotherapy and other treatments.

We have more than 60,000 consultants nationwide, but there is only a very small, hand-picked group who have been trained and certified to serve as Pure Romance SSS consultants. These women go into the homes or support groups of women living with cancer and either answer the questions you have or re-direct you to an awesome network of professionals who will not dismiss your concerns or issues.
