Three local doctors offer services to help you with a complete and overall healthy lifestyle. Learn how they walk the walk and talk the talk as they help you do the same.

When Dr. Patrick Baker was just 6 years old, his life consisted of inhalers and nebulizers to keep his asthma under control. Life wasn't much better for his twin, Dr. Paul Baker, as he suffered from stomach issues, which one day made him double over in pain to the point that his brother had to carry him home. But everything changed when they saw their cousin, a chiropractor.

"The chiropractic care at an early age helped us, and it made a big, profound impact on both of us," Patrick says. Now, the twin brothers serve as two of the three chiropractors of Baker Chiropractic.

Dr. Ryan Berlin, the final member of the chiropractor team, also benefited from seeing a chiropractor at a young age. After frequent ear infections, the surgical removal of his tonsils and adenoids, and placement of tube implants in his ears, Ryan's health didn't improve. Instead of turning to additional surgeries, his parents took him to a chiropractor, who helped Ryan's health improve in a matter of weeks.

So while the term "chiropractor" can conjure up images exclusively of necks and backs, Patrick, Paul and Ryan give personal testimonials that chiropractic care can help in solving problems anywhere in the body. "The explanation is if you have a misalignment of the spine in a specific area and that nerve controls a certain body part, then it can be helped," Patrick says.

So the vertebrae in your spine protect the nerves that control the various parts of your body, and if one of those vertebrae is out of place and pinching a nerve, that part of the body will be negatively affected. For example, the first thoracic vertebra (T1) controls the esophagus and trachea, so when Patrick's T1 was out of place, he suffered from asthma. (To learn more about the specific vertebrae and what their displacements can affect, check out this interactive diagram.)

Beyond their chiropractic appointments, the Bakers and Berlin offer health talks to discuss how to achieve a complete healthy lifestyle. Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m. Ryan and Paul offer health talks at the West Chester and Cincinnati locations, and Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. Patrick and Paul lead the discussions at the Fairfield and Cincinnati locations.

"We're on a mission — myself, my brother and Dr. Ryan — to help as many people as we possibly can, and we've found out that the best way to help people, as far as health, is to educate them, so there's no fee involved," Patrick says. "These are totally free. They're informational. And that's what they're all about."

In addition to their chiropractic care, each Baker Chiropractic location has multiple massage therapists on staff, and it's no coincidence that each practice also is located near or even in the same building as BEAT Personal Training. The physical fitness of your body plays a major role in the health of your spine, which controls the overall well-being of your body. So after 10 years in business with Baker Chiropractic, the Bakers decided to open doors for their patients in the personal training world.

"All clients are with a trainer at all times," Patrick says, so clients don't have to worry about waiting for machines. And as all BEAT trainers have a degree geared toward personal training, clients don't have to worry about getting hurt because of the lack of knowledge in their trainer.
