Chic Spotlight: SENATE Restaurant's Lana Wright
Gourmet hot dogs, mouth-watering fries — this local lady and her husband offer culinary temptations worth your indulgence. Learn more about her and one of the hottest new restaurants in town.
SENATE Restaurant Co-Owner Lana Wright: My family has been in the industry my whole life, so growing up in it has been an influence. I've worked in restaurants since I was 16, doing everything from serving, bartending to management.
I moved to Chicago and met my husband, Dan, at Souk, where he was the executive chef. We moved back to work on opening SENATE about two years ago.
Cincy Chic: This is for our Splurge/Indulge issue, and with your upscale junk food offerings, your menu offers some delicious indulgences. What are some of your favorites?
Wright: My favorite has to be the truffle fries. I think I've had dreams about them. I also love the Chicago hotdog, and the mussels are delicious.
Cincy Chic: With all of the diets out there and the emphasis on a healthy lifestyle, why do you think it's important for people to splurge a little every once in a while?
Wright: I think it's important to eat healthy and take care of your body. I believe that people should eat whatever they want but with moderation. Sometimes it's OK to be naughty, and my husband has definitely put some guilty pleasures on our menu.
Cincy Chic: What are some of your other taste-bud satiaters around town?
Wright: I honestly love to cook at home, but we do love the yellow curry at Mekong in Kenwood. Cincinnati also has some of the best Indian food around.
Cincy Chic: The restaurant industry aside, how do you have fun?
Wright: We love to hang out with family and our two Yorkies. Anything outside by a grill with some fabulous wine or beer with friends is always a good time.
Cincy Chic: What do you love most about Cincinnati?
Wright: I love the hills, and the architecture is beautiful, especially in Over the Rhine. This city has some amazing history.
