Stay Healthy with Indulgences Believe it or not, splurges (yes, even that cheeseburger) can be part of a healthy lifestyle. One local personal trainer spills about her own indulgences and how you can keep yours in check.

Keep it Tight Fitness Owner Melissa Matson has her own personal indulgence — an indulgence that was costing her about $360 a month. That's right, Matson was taking three to four shots a day, but not of the alcoholic kind. (In fact, Matson quit drinking when she started into her fitness career.)
No, those shots were all-natural energy shots, and at $4.99 a pop, it was quite the indulgence. Now, Matson has cut back to two to three shots a day and has switched to Steaz organic energy shots, which are a little more affordable at $3 apiece.
While Matson has her own indulgence, she keeps health in mind by reaching for an organic choice. "They don't have any artificial sweeteners, and the caffeine that's in them is all-natural, so it doesn't give you that really high energy and have you crash," Matson says.
To keep your own indulgences under control, Matson offers a couple tips:
1. Don't deprive yourself. Generally women who feel restricted in their diet will do well at first and then lose control, Matson says. So be sure you let yourself indulge every once in a while so that you maintain your healthy lifestyle.
2. Pick a day to splurge. When you have a craving, set up your splurge. Pick a time to satisfy your craving, Matson says, and you even have something to look forward to. You should do the same with your workouts to give your body a break. Instead of working out seven days a week, select a day of rest so that your body and mind can recuperate.
3. Schedule healthy meals around your splurge. Just as you schedule your indulgence, be sure to schedule getting back on track. If you are planning to grab a cheeseburger for dinner, plan to have some fresh veggies with it instead of the French fries and plan healthy meals around the splurge so that you can be sure to stay on course.
