Finding the Right Stuff
Keep your eyes peeled for these five ingredients when shopping for new makeup. Then find out about the best and brightest products according to this local makeup artist.
Therefore, unveil Glossa Owner Lyndsey Yeager. After being a makeup artist for 10 years, Yeager works to transform makeup application into more of a total experience for brides, actors, models and many other Tri-State professionals.
With a background in cosmeceuticals, Yeager also knows the ins and outs of the ingredients, so she can guide women to what to look for in their beauty products in order to achieve specific results. Below are just five of these ingredients to look for in skincare and makeup products, Yeager says.
Deep sea water is actually water from the deep oceans where sunlight cannot hit it. Toners and creams that contain this particular water molecule hydrate the skin and provide a big drink of water for your skin, Yeager says. One of her favorite products to use is Laura Mercier's Perfecting Water. She uses light for normal skin and rich for dry skin while providing her makeup artistry services at Glossa.
"[This product] keeps my skin in perfect pH balance," Yeager says.
2. Arnica
The yellow flower Arnica Montana makes for a great ingredient in eye creams, Yeager says. If you have issues with dark circles under your eyes or even puffy eyes in the mornings, this ingredient will help you. It is mostly used for treating inflammation and occasional bruising but results will come gradually.
Yeager likes to use Teamine Eye Complex to solve all of her eye problems.
Antioxidants like vitamin C, Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), algin and green tea are all important to look for when shopping for beauty products. Skincare products, foundations and face primers should have antioxidants in them to help provide your skin with the essential ingredients it needs to look fresh and be healthy. For a foundation filled with green tea extract, Yeager suggests Youngblood's Liquid Mineral Foundation, and for a primer look for Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundation Primer.
4. Cashmere Talc
You mostly can find this ingredient in powdery makeup products like eye shadow, blush and finishing powder. "This ingredient has a very smooth feeling to it, which allows for a sheer, soft and silky feeling," Yeager says. All of Laura Mercier's eye shadow products contain cashmere talc, which will prevent your shadow from creasing on your eyelids. Also, Laura Mercier's Loose Setting Powder contains this ingredient and provides a finished look and helps foundation stay on longer.
5. Cinnamon
Just like the cinnamon in a Cinnabon cinnamon roll at the Cincinnati airport, the same spice can not only be sweet to taste but also add a nice kick in your makeup. This spice can be found in many lip plumpers, Yeager says. Cinnamon increases the blood flow in the lips and therefore makes them appear larger to the eye. Although some makeup brands might use menthol or caffeine for the same lip plumping effect, Yeager likes to use products with cinnamon because it lasts longer on the lips.
For Yeager, there are some special brands and skincare lines that she personally likes to use as well as using it on her Glossa clients.
Concealer: Laura Mercier's Secret Camouflage, which is a dry concealer that stays put when applied to the face. Bronzer: Bobbi Brown's Bronzer, giving a matte finish without any shimmer, which "looks wonderful in pictures," she says. Eye Shadow: MAC's Melon Pigment for eyelids provides shimmer and makes for a beautiful wedding color. Eye Brow Enhancer: Anastasia's Brow Duality highlighter is a great tool to add perfect brows to a flawless look. Lip Color: Cover Girl's Outlast Lip Stain because it literally outlasts the others and appears more natural than other lip colors.
