Summer Beauty Guide
You might want to think twice about that bold lipstick, and hold off on the shimmer. One local beauty expert shares her tips for the beauty trends this season.

This season, it's good to be girly — at least when it comes to your makeup look, says Tamra Berry, a local makeup artist and owner of Exclusive: A Tamra Berry Studio. Cincy Chic met with Berry to find out all about the trends of Summer '10, and feminine is in.

You can expect to carry out this look in the season's colors. "They're very subtle colors but are very feminine, not bold and harsh like we've seen for fall and winter," Berry says. Look for pinks, nudes and beige colors for your lips, nails and even your cheeks.

Golds and bronzes are also hot this year, so look to use these shades on your eyes and cheeks. Try combining these colors with the smoky eye (yup, it's still in!) to achieve a knock-out look. To make it all happen, Berry recommends using buildable-color eye shadows that are easy to blend. Also, a couple specific brushes will help with that blending. A smoky brush (available through Berry) is designed specifically to achieve the smoky-eye look, and it helps you blend colors to pump up the drama but still have a polished look. An eyeliner brush also can help in the process, Berry says. Use this brush to apply that dark bronze to your lash line before you put on your eyeliner.

As you make up your eyes, don't forget your cheeks! A great bronzer will be a must-have this summer, and Berry has the perfect product. Her makeup line includes a mineral bronzer that goes "very soft on the face," she says. Berry's rose shimmer blush also follows along the feminine trends of the season, and while both of these products have light reflecting qualities, they have more of an on-trend soft shimmer than the high-shimmer products of last year.

To go along with the soft shimmer, make sure to have a great moisturizer on hand. "As far as the skin goes, it's a very dewy look — a glowing, dewy look. So moisturizing is very, very important and is key to get this look," Berry says.
