Making up Time
Trying to find the right products for your makeup routine can cost you time and money, but this local makeup artist saves you both as she designs and accompanies you on a shopping trip.

After she worked her way through high school and college at Victoria's Secret Beauty, Elizabeth Newitt, owner of Makeup by Elizabeth, had many of her friends and family members turning to her for makeup tips and advice. Now, she specializes in a service unlike those of any other makeup artist.

Newitt's "Makeup Makeover" allows you to save time and money, as you get to take Newitt shopping with you so that she can make individualized makeup recommendations. Before hitting the shops, though, Newitt consults with each client to determine her wants and needs in relation to her beauty routine. Those stipulations include the client's budget, and Newitt is ready to work with almost any budget, whether it's $20 or $200 plus. Newitt also asks each client about her lifestyle and skin type.

After the initial consultation, it's time for a shopping spree! Newitt takes her clients to different stores, depending on their budget and other needs. This idea speaks to Newitt's objectivity. She won't profit from anything you buy, so it allows you to trust her. She's not a sales counter woman trying to push the latest line. She's your ally, trying to pair you with what will work for you (not her pocketbook).

Stops for the shopping spree could include anywhere from a drug store to Sephora, but based on the initial consultation, Newitt makes each stop selection for a specifi041910BEAUTY2.jpgc purpose and purchase. When going into a store, she has an agenda of what to buy — foundation, mascara, eye shadow, etc. Generally, she is extra particular about her foundation choices.

"The biggest mistake that I see is normally with their foundation. Most of the time, they're not using one that's right for their skin type or even right for the look that they're going for," Newitt says. Because the foundation sets the tone for the face, Newitt generally recommends spending a little more money on this product. For example, on a $50 budget, it would be perfectly normal for the foundation to cost $30, Newitt says.

After about 30 to 45 minutes shopping, each of Newitt's clients should have a new makeup wardrobe, customized to their look and lifestyle. But Newitt doesn't leave her clients to fend for themselves. Included in the price of the Makeup Makeover, Newitt provides a makeup lesson so that you can walk away, having the products and knowing exactly how to make them work for you.
