Media Maven: "Valentine's Day" Movie Review
With a mile-long list of big-name stars, can this movie live up to its A-list cast? Our Media Maven fills you in on whether this film will leave you love-struck or heartbroken.

"Valentine's Day"

Jessica Alba, Kathy Bates, Jessica Biel, Bradley Cooper, Eric Dane, Patrick Dempsey, Hector Elizondo, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Topher Grace, Anne Hathaway, Carter Jenkins, Ashton Kutcher, Queen Latifah, Taylor Lautner, Taylor Swift

"Valentine's Day" is a miscellany of popular movie stars put together to make a movie about the highs and lows of being in love on Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, this review may just be as long as the list of actors who are in this compilation.

032210GCI_INSTORY.gif Director Gary Marshall (best known for "Pretty Woman," "Runaway Bride" and "The Other Sister") tries to make a film where everyone can relate to at least one of the romantic scenarios in this hodgepodge of stories. Yes, Ashton Kutcher is cute as a florist who is a romantic. Topher Grace nails the role of the clean-cut Midwestern man of values. Taylor Swift gives a convincing performance of a love-struck teen. Yet all don't amount to much, as none of the characters are developed enough to make us really care about them.

And that is the problem with this film. There are too many storylines left undeveloped to make us care much for this film. Granted, there are many actors involved, but the film named "Valentine's Day" has very little heart.

Jan's Movie Rating System:

* * * * * — Top-notch entertainment

* * * * — Compelling, heartwarming, thrilling, comical

* * * — The a) story b) actors c) special effects saved/made this movie.

* * — If you are bored, watch it or wait for DVD

* — Don't bother. Too morose, too violent, too blase, an enigma.
