Pinching Pennies Made Easy

Pinching Pennies Made Easy
Super Man may save the day, but one local Web site is ditching the cape and strapping on some wings to help you save more money in your (flying) piggy bank.

It's a bird! It's a plane! Nope, it's even better — CincySavers.com.

Recession or not, you can't deny the rush of saving some dough (and I'm not talking about the chocolate chip chunk you have stashed in the freezer). "When you start saving money, it becomes an addiction. When you're used to spending $150 at the grocery and you walk out spending $50, it's a real thrill," says Melissa Huelsman, director of digital engagement at CincySavers.

And that's the goal of CincySavers to begin with, to help area residents experience the joy of saving money without having to go to several different sources just to save a couple bucks. The CincySavers team works to scour the city for deals on anything from bath towels to Buicks to bars and restaurants. "We do all the legwork for you," Huelsman says.

Part of that "legwork" is in finding local people and services who consistently offer great deals, so CincySavers serves as an umbrella site of savings that includes access to HalfPriceCincy, budget blogs, weekly grocery and retail circulars, and more.

Find Friday deals through HalfPriceCincy every week at 9 a.m. While some deals might be available for a couple weeks, others don't last throughout the day. "We always tell people: Shop early, shop often," Huelsman says.

HalfPriceCincy recently added another hot day for bargains with their Super Tuesday deals. Starting at 9 a.m. every Tuesday, the Super Tuesday deals promise to save you at least 70 percent off places you like to eat, shop and play. Be sure to act quick, though, because these deals won't wait around for Wednesday, Huelsman says.

Beyond the HalfPriceCincy deals, CincySavers shares the frugalista words of wisdom of Heather Tenney and Becky Grizovick in their blogs, Little Miss Know it All and Nickels and Dimes, respectively. Tenney consistently helps grocery shoppers cut their would-have-been bill in half, Huelsman says.

In addition to their own site, CincySavers has branched out to social media to offer even more ways to save with a Twitter account (@CincySavers) and Facebook page. Even if the team finds a deal not offered on the official site, the Twitter and Facebook accounts might pick it up.
