New Non-Invasive Cosmetic Procedures
Going under the knife isn't for everyone. One local doctor gives us the scoop on two new - even better - options for freshening up your face and beautifying your body for the holidays and New Year.

They say laughter is the best medicine. And for a long time, Botox was the only medicine for smoothing everyone's laugh lines.
But now, there's a new product on the market that's every bit as good as Botox, according to Dr. Jon Mendelsohn, Medical Director of the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center.
Mendelsohn says the latest product for reducing fine lines and wrinkles is Dysport, which works similarly to the effective neurotoxin in Botox. But there's one big difference:  It acts more quickly than Botox. Studies show that it takes affect in just one to two days instead of three to five days. In addition, the manufacturer, Medicis, claims that Dysport will last five to six months, where Botox typically lasts only three months.
"In my opinion," says Mendelsohn, "this product is being launched at the perfect time since the demand for non-surgical rejuvenating procedures is way up, and the demand for surgical procedures has gone down, all due to our recession."
And there's a new alternative to body contouring surgery  as well: Zerona laser therapy. In fact, the Advanced Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Center is the first plastic surgery group in Greater Cincinnati to offer this non-surgical liposuction alternative with guaranteed results.
What are the benefits? Zerona is a proven, safe and painless procedure that eliminates both inches and fat with no discomfort, bruising, scarring or recovery time.
"The treatment can be used essentially on every part of the body where localized fat deposits exist – even those stubborn fats that are resistant to diet and exercise," says Mendelsohn. "Best of all, it is quick and painless, with maximum results produced after six, 40 minute treatments, administered over a two week period."
By following the recommended guidelines, patients can experience a loss of three to nine inches from the waist, hips and thighs, and a reduction in clothes size. Other areas of the body that can be effectively treated include the stomach, back, buttocks, bra-line, inner knees, love handles, chin, neck and arms.
According to Mendelsohn, Zerona is a safe, low-level laser therapy which stimulates the fat cells to emulsify (liquefy) the fat within the cell. The liquefied fat moves from inside the cell through a temporary pore formed in the cell membrane to outside the cell where it is in interstitial space until being absorbed by the lymphatic system. This results in millions of fat cells becoming smaller so that inches are reduced on the part of the body at which the laser is directed, whether it is the waist, hips, thighs or stomach.
Now, keep in mind, the holidays are here and so are those New Year's Resolutions! So, purchase a gift certificate to try out these cutting edge procedures that will help you look and feel like a perfect 10 in 2010!
Any patient who buys a $100 gift certificate between now and December 31, 2009 will be automatically entered into a drawing for a free facelift! One facelift entry per each certificate purchased. Mendelsohn is double board certified by both the American Board of Facial and Reconstructive Surgery and also the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.
