Incentivizing Progress Every business has its traditions, but one local company's tradition knocks the socks off employees on a monthly basis — literally. Learn how "celebration" can be a part of "occupation." ![]() Imagine a company where the boss buys lunch for the entire staff every month. Keep your imagination going with a monthly happy hour where drinks and appetizers are on the company's bill. And think of an office where a compliment earns you more than a pat on the back but a foot-happy day of slippers from 9 to 5.
Unlike Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, this sweet place actually exists, and it's located right here in the Tri-State with PRISM Title & Closing Services.
That's right: PRISM makes it a mission to set incentives as a tradition. So on the last day of every month, PRISM brings in a boxed lunch to satisfy the hunger of the hard workers who, because of the nature of the closings industry, generally have a heavy workload at month's end. A couple days after the busy spell, PRISM employees stop work at 4:15 p.m. to enjoy a 45-minute happy hour right in the office.
During happy hours, employees have a chance to relax and socialize over company-provided drinks and appetizers. They also can play split the pot with their "PRISM bucks" that they've earned from going above and beyond the call of duty. The PRISM bucks can buy anything from luggage tags to shirts to gift cards.
Another perk for the happy hours is that workers who have earned the right can kick off their shoes and slip into something a little more comfortable — fuzzy slippers that is. The slippers incentive started as part of a Knock Your Socks off Campaign, and employees who receive a compliment from somebody outside the office receive a pair of slippers. These warm incentives come out the day the employee receives them and then at every company event after that.
"We have a number of incentives in place, but the idea is that people don't just want to work just to make a living anymore. They want to have fun," says Jane Schulte, executive vice president and chief operating officer. And with a zero turnover rate, PRISM shows that the incentives work. "We don't have anybody leaving saying, 'I don't like it here,' or 'I want to go find another job," Schulte says.
With the good thing they have going, the leaders of PRISM have decided to share the wealth with the book BOLD Leadership by Schulte. "BOLD Leadership is the story of PRISM," she says, from its start to its extreme growth from 8 to 60 employees before its second anniversary. Also included in BOLD Leadership are the incentives used to maintain a positive attitude at the company.
