"We try to make Ambience more like a destination spa. Instead of flying out to Arizona or going out to California, you can get those same services here," Marketing Director Katie Rupert says. "And every mom or woman needs a night out to herself."

To help satisfy that need in women, Ambience stays open seven days a week for service and offers monthly clinics, with each clinic revolving around a different theme. October's theme, for example, is "Blow Dry and Bubbly." Guests can enjoy a glass of champagne as they learn the secrets of getting that blow dryer to do what they want. (Now if only they had a class on men!)

November will bring an even more festive night with "Party Styles." Requested by Ambience customers, "Party Styles" will give each participant a different look for the holidays, so as you and your girlfriends learn how to create a masterpiece with your hair, you can swap styling secrets to achieve even more party 'dos. Also, the salon staff will teach about styling and finishing products, so you and the girls will have a better grasp on how to tackle your tresses.

Besides general themes that fit every woman, Ambience also offers "niche" clinics, Rupert says. There are certain niches of clients where the designer can't give those customers as much information as they probably want in the one-on-one time clients have when they come in for a service, Rupert says. And curly-haired ladies form a major group to fit that description. So the salon's "Be Curly" event started it all and will be back in early 2010 to teach women with curls how to expand their style horizons with different looks.

Clinics generally start at 6:30 p.m. and last about an hour and a half, so Ambience helps extend your stay-cation by offering coupons for customers. From going to P.F. Chang's China Bistro for a free appetizer to shopping at Chico's and J. Jill with discount coupons, you and your girlfriends can enjoy the rest of your night out as you show off your new looks.
