You might spend time wondering how other ladies tame their tresses to perform the tricks they desire, whether that entails movie-star curls or sleek straight strands. The time of contemplation is over as Mi Salon Spa throws out a lifeline to rescue you from your bad hair days.

Located in Florence, Ky., this salon puts education first for staff and customers. In fact, the Michael's College of Hair Design is located below the salon, so Mi Salon Spa uses the training facilities to provide continuing education for stylist and client workshops.

The salon's client workshops focus on specific topics to pass on the stylists' secrets. The events range from hair to makeup with topics focusing on Day into Evening and Second day Hair.

One workshop was a "BYOB" event, a Bring Your Own Blow dryer event, that is. "As a hairstylist, we have all had that client who says, 'I wish I had you in my bathroom with me every morning.' … By teaching you how to properly use the tools whether it be the proper styling tools or thermal tools can make all the difference in the world to the final result," General Manager Melissa Graus says.

Besides scheduled events, the Mi Salon Spa staff caters styling tips and tricks to individual customers when they come in the salon. For example, if your hair is curly, a stylist might offer a suggestion on what towel to use. "Like terrycloth towels when you have curly hair, sometimes what it does the little fibers actually make your hair frizzier," Co-owner Idajean Moore says.

If you'd rather experiment for yourself, Mi Salon Spa offers a new "test me, try me" bar, Moore says. The bar features styling products and tools that customers can try before they buy. Whether you want to learn on your own or seek the assistance of a stylist is up to you. Mi Salon Spa staff is ready for either path of experimentation.

The salon carries Sebastian, Bumble and bumble., and TIGI Haircare (creator of Bed Head) products, and the test area provides customers with five products from each line that they can touch, smell and use to see if the product works for them. In addition to the styling products, the bar allows customers to try the styling tools as well. Whether you're planning a purchase of a different brand of a hot tool or you've never tried the tool before, the "test me, try me" bar provides that experimental opportunity. The styling tools range from your classic hair dryer to more recent curl sticks.
