Remember when red meat, eggs, whole milk and slathering on baby oil before lying out in the sun were as healthy as can be? These days, we know more about cholesterol and skin cancer, so we rely on lean protein, whole grains and SPF 35 to keep happy, healthy and melanoma-free. But somehow, even with all the bad press, there are still sun worshippers among us, always searching for one thing — that perfect, glowing tan.

But there are better ways to achieve that bronzed look than soaking in the sun or hitting the tanning beds! The ultraviolet radiation from the sun and tanning lamps are what tan the skin, but they are also the culprits for causing pre-mature skin aging and skin cancer.

Indoor tanning, once marketed as a safer alternative to the sun, causes cancer risks to jump 75 percent in those who use them before the age of 30, according to research published in The Lancet Oncology medical journal. So with tanning beds on the list of known carcinogens as of July 2009, it's time to find a better answer.

If a browned beach bod is a must, then make sure to be sun wise with airbrush tanning by SunWize Tanning company. Courtney Amicon, founder and SunWize airbrush artist extraordinaire, offers airbrush tanning by appointment only and uses a high-volume, low-pressure spray gun and four different levels of color. A SunWize personal air brusher applies a water-based sunless tanning solution to the skin by hand for a personalized and safe sunless tan. The solution contains aloe, bronzers and dihydroxyacetone (DHA).

Once applied, the DHA will react with the natural amino acids on the top layer of your skin and deepen in color over about a 12-hour period. Customers even have an option to add shimmer drops to the tanning solution to leave their skin looking extra dewy and delicious. Your beautifully deceiving faux tan will last anywhere from one to two weeks. (To extend your tan's life, make sure to moisturize daily).

SunWize Tanning is also the only mobile airbrush service in the Greater Cincinnati area. With fees dependent on your distance from SunWize's location on 8837 Columbia Road, a personal air brusher can come to your home or business with everything needed to administer a lovely tan look to you and your friends.

"For larger groups, like bridal parties it's more convenient and more fun for everyone to meet all at once rather than trying to schedule everyone separately," Amicon says.

So keep that delicate skin out of the blistering sun and tanning beds, and remember your daily SPF!
