Media Maven: "Dance Flick" Movie Review With all of the hype in Hollywood over dancing, there was bound to be a dancing parody, and here it is. Read on to learn whether it'll bring some laughs or just regret over wasting your time. "Dance Flick"
Shoshana Bush, Damon Wayans Jr., Essence Atkins, Affion Crockett, Christina Murphy, David Alan Grier, Amy Sedaris, Kim Wayans
"Dance Flick" is a good natured, over-the-top movie that spoofs the real dance flicks: "Save The Last Dance" (Julia Stiles, Sean Patrick Thomas) and "Step Up" (Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan). Characters Megan (Shoshana Bush) and street dancer Thomas Uncles (Damon Wayans) parody the film "Save The Last Dance." And it is that storyline that is most predominant in this film.
Given that this film was directed by Damien Dante Wayans, written by Keenen Ivory and Shawn Wayans and starring Damon Wayans Jr. one can easily see the influence of the irreverent skewed comedic flavor of the family that brought us "White Chicks."
Having said that, if you like watching movies that spend more time developing sight gags and extravagant take offs that feel like the original movie yet carry a good dose of absurdity, then you will enjoy this film. As for me, it quickly became tedious. Although the overbearing dance instructor Ms. Cameltoe (Amy Sedaris) was a laugh riot and just another example of the outlandish talent of the Wayans Family in bringing over-the-top comedy to you and me.
