Staying Safe for Life's Emergencies Women rely on beauty products to keep them fresh and chic, but some products can have the reverse effect. Check out this local beauty boutique that carries safe products and cute emergency packs. ![]() Beauty safety goes beyond lead scares in lipstick. Multiple studies have shown that an average woman, on a normal beauty routine ingests 51 pounds of product a year, says Sarah Cherot-Abercrombie, owner of Cher-Chique Boutique + Beauty Bar.
The skin is the largest organ in the human body, and its absorption abilities are to blame for the majority of those 51 pounds. "A lot of people don't realize that everything you put on your body is being absorbed and can go anywhere in your body," Cherot-Abercrombie says. So the big questions are what are you allowing to get into your system and what does that mean for your body?
Cher-Chique boasts all-natural beauty products. "When you get into natural and organic products, they're typically a lot safer," Cherot-Abercrombie says. Consumers don't have to worry about preservatives, fillers or cancer-causing ingredients used in many chemically produced beauty lines.
The Cher-Chique products maintain their all-natural approach from start to finish, which isn't true for all "natural" beauty lines. "Just because you start natural doesn't mean you end natural," Cherot-Abercrombie says, but she and her staff demand proof from every company they work with that the products going into the boutique and beauty bar start and finish in an all-natural state.
Before they ever put a product out for consumers, Cherot-Abercrombie and her staff try the product to make sure that they test true for performance. "As a staff, we use the products ourselves," Cherot-Abercrombie says. "We wouldn't put anything on the shelves that we wouldn't use ourselves."
Besides keeping you safe from chemical absorption, Cher-Chique keeps you covered in the time of an emergency with their Emergency Packs by Flexflop. Each pack includes a cute zipper pouch with necessities for specific occasions. For example, Cherot-Abercrombie uses the Deluxe Travel Pack that comes complete with an eye mask, shout wipes, hand sanitizer, Advil, toilet paper and other travelers' necessities. "I travel a lot, and being on the plane, it's easy to just throw that in my bag and have everything I need," she says.
Another popular pack is the Hot Mama Pack, which includes emergency items like Band Aids, sanitizer wipes, a sewing kit, tissues and more. It makes a great gift for new moms because the makeup-bag-sized pouch easily can fit in a diaper bag. "It's quick and easy," Cherot-Abercrombie says. Similarly, new brides can stay safe with the Shack Pack, which includes breath freshener, condoms, makeup remover and more.
