"My Life in Ruins" is a sweet little film that plays out as a sweet little film -- nothing more, nothing less. As a heavyweight actor, Richard Dreyfuss does little to add to the entertainment factor of this film. He plays a cantankerous grouch, who turns into an irresistible teddy bear beloved by all as the film proceeds.

Nia Vardalos (lead of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding") is the star of this film. Vardalos' charm carries this film, and the diverse group of tourists creates a dynamic of mild interest for the audience.

Yet, charm and mild interest are not enough to guarantee even a four-star rating for this movie. In fact, I give it a two, which means wait for it on DVD or go see it if you are bored. There is very little character development, and the story's need to have a happy ending overpowers any plausibility of this film actually being based in reality.
