Health Checks for the Busy Businessman Getting check-ups from a litany of doctors is time-consuming. One local health facility is changing that concept with a one-stop-shop for all your healthcare needs.
The Executive Health Check Program at the University of Cincinnati might best be described as boutique healthcare for the busy professional.
The program, created by UC Physicians clinical faculty, got off the ground three years ago. As the program's name implies, it's geared toward corporate executives. Its goal is to provide a one- stop-shop for their personal healthcare needs. That includes tailoring in-depth medical examinations to individual evaluations.
UC faculty members Dr. Matthew Hardin and Dr. Robert Wolterman lead the program as co-directors.
"The main idea was for University Hospital to offer a streamlined format for busy executives and others to be able to have a comprehensive screening and evaluation of their medical needs in a short period of time, with the results handed to them at the end of the visit. This consolidates several different visits for these services into one five- to six-hour experience," Dr. Hardin says.
The program is based at the new University Pointe campus in West Chester. About 15 companies have sent one or more executives there to get checked, Dr. Hardin says.
"We've had feedback from several executives that they like this because it has easy-to-access, on-site parking. All of the services are in one small building with personal escort from each service to the next with minimal downtime. The West Chester facility was specifically identified for this program with its easy access and having all services under one roof," Dr. Hardin says.
During an initial visit, all exams, screenings and tests are finished in one day at one location. Among those several dozen offered are:
"It's been set up with the individual in mind. It's an opportunity for the physician to get to know the individual through a questionnaire, interview, physical exam, etc. Then they look over all the information to give results and make recommendations about anything else to consider regarding follow-up testing," Dr. Hardin says.
This technique allows doctors to find and treat health risks in executives and encourage long-term healthy lifestyle choices.
"We designed the program using many years of primary care experience with the goal of allowing the individual to have all of the important health screening issues addressed effectively and efficiently and bring him or her up to date with the current recommendations for screening when they leave," Dr. Hardin says.
