Suiting up With Corwyn Thomas
A man in a suit gets you hot under the collar. One local retailer is raising the bar for men's apparel, so find out how your man can keep his suit stash well stocked with this fine menswear.

A chat about style and trend with Corwyn Thomas reveals a man very in touch with the finer side of men's fashion. Thomas, who in his own words "has fashion in his blood," is the founder and CEO of Corwyn Apparel, a Cincinnati-based retailer of fine men's neckwear, custom shirts and custom suits.

Revealing a keen eye for fashion at age 6, Thomas recalls selecting ties for his father, a well-known banking executive in his hometown of Shreveport, La. "My father [taught me] that image and attitude are the defining accessories of an eye-catching ensemble," Thomas says.

Now, as CEO of Corwyn Apparel, Thomas is proud of the fact that he can count CNN's Roland Martin, NBA Star Alonzo Mourning and season one "Apprentice" star Kwame Jackson among his couture clients. "We have also been featured on CNN, BET and Essence Online," he says.

With this designer pedigree, Thomas is a natural choice to help Cincinnati's most fashionable men suit up for spring and summer. The biggest trend of the coming season is paisley, Thomas says. Whether you rock a paisley long sleeve or a paisley tie, you can't go wrong with the hottest pattern of the season.

For a casual look, Thomas recommends a dressed up version of the standard jeans and tee. "Cotton and silk T-shirts [paired with] True Religion jeans are quite popular now with a blazer to finish," he says Add a pair of Golas and you're set for the biz casual office or a night on the town.

The color palette for spring and summer heats up with a strong infusion of purple, orange and pink — sometimes mixed together in a bold patterned tie. "You [definitely] will see them displayed in neck ties," Thomas says. Check out the Rio De Janeiro in the Krimson by Kwame collection for a sample of the season's palette blended with a sassy paisley print.

Speaking of ties, Thomas has two bits of advice for the smart-dressed man. First, check the width of your tie. American fashion leans toward wider ties, while European custom is decidedly thinner. If you're cutting edge, try a skinny tie. Second, learn to tie what he calls the "Godzilla Knot." "Men everywhere are rocking a larger knot in their tie these days!" he says. To master this and other popular knots, visit Corwyn Apparel's site for complete instructions.

Finally, Corwyn Thomas supplied Cincy Chic readers with what he calls "The Commandments of Style" Follow them, along with all of the trend tips and tricks, to be the top of the fashion class.

1. Honor thy tailor.

2. Thou shall monogram and wear a shirt that fits.

3. Honor the square French cuff above all cuffs.

4. Thou shall remember thy undershirt.

5. Thou shall not wear a tie that is too slim.

6. Thou shall match your socks with your suit.

7. Thou shall not dishonor a black suit with brown shoes.

8. Thou shall never wear a belt and suspenders.
