Show Shoppers
E-bay and packed malls aren't your only shopping options. These two local events turn a stressful shopping experience into a fun, yet productive, night out with the girls.

Tired of kamikaze holiday shoppers, long lines and the large-crowd-induced claustrophobia and headaches? Make holiday shopping a positive experience or even as far as — dare I say it — fun.

Plum Diore and the Twist Lounge have the solution: a holiday-inspired fashion show! So grab your girlfriends on Nov. 20 to head out for a night on the town to have some cocktails as the merchandise walks past you instead of vise versa.

The show begins at 10 p.m., but you might want to get the party started a little earlier because a large crown is expected. "The last fashion show at Twist was at capacity because we had so many people in there," Plum Diore owner Ivy Pitzer says. "They had to turn people away."

Before the show, Twist will have $5 wine and champagne so that you can toast to the stress-free atmosphere of holiday shopping. Plum Diore and Morrison & Me, the shoe boutique providing the fashionable footwear for the show, will be handing out coupons. Plum Diore will offer 10 percent of your entire purchase through Dec. 15, and Morrison & Me will offer 25 percent off a single item.

"We've never given out coupons before," Pitzer says, and they won't be handing out the coupons any other time or any other place, so she expects her clients and new customers alike to be excited for the opportunity to buy the clothes they see in the show at a discounted rate. 0708DEGROOT_FASHION.gif

Once the models hit the runway, let the shopping sights begin! There will be about 20 outfits that will help women "think outside of the box when they're getting dressed for holiday parties," Pitzer says. Some New View Management Group models will show off designer Cathy Strasser's line that is available exclusively at Plum Diore, among other "fun and edgy" holiday party get-ups. For the men in the audience (or women shopping for their men), two male models will be sporting six outfits from Bolero.

After the show, all of the models will walk around in their last outfit and answer any questions about what they are wearing in case someone on your shopping list would like one of the items. "We're mostly doing our show to pump people up for the holidays and to ask them to keep our store in mind when they're shopping for the holidays," Pitzer says.

If you can't make the fashion show, you can still catch a unique holiday shopping experience with the Letter G trunk show at Plum Diore from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 13. The show will feature 30 to 40 of jewelry designer Leah Durig's one-of-a-kind pieces.

"[Durig] never makes anything the same, so if you see something and don't buy it right then, you will probably never have the chance 0208GIBBERMAN.gifto buy it again," Pitzer says. And because of their beauty and rarity combined, Durig's pieces don't last long at Plum Diore before they sell out, which is why the trunk show is an important event.

"People buy six or eight pieces at a time because they know that they can only do that once a year with [Durig]," Pitzer says. Because of Durig's popularity, Pitzer doubts that the trunk show will last until 4 p.m. as scheduled.

"Last December when we had her trunk show, we had people waiting at the door, and she sold out by [noon]," Pitzer says.

So whether it's Nov. 20 for the fashion show at Twist or Dec. 13 for the Letter G trunk show at the Plum Diore boutique, punctuality is the name of the game at these events. They're both sure to be a classic day of savvy holiday shopping, and to all and to all a good night!
