Handbags: Just What the Doctor Ordered
A local company has taken Hollywood by storm with its fashionable doctor-style handbags. With one of these beauts on your arm, you'lll surely chase away any fashion faux pas ailments. 

 
Tired of perusing through a hum-drum shelf of handbags you're sure every other person at the mall will be carrying by next week?

Well, no need to get your pretty head all flustered, Designs by Paolo, a high-fashion manufacturer of vintage "doctor" handbags has the couture prescription to remedy any "I-don't-have-any-handbags" sickness you might have come down with.

 The company, based in West Chester, originally started a year and a half ago when Professional Case, Inc. its parent company, was featured in Lucky Magazine for its 34 years of experience in making classic, and surprisingly chic, doctor's bags.

"Every TV personality doctor has had one of our doctor's bags, from "Doogie Howser" to the fellows from "Everwood," vice president and co-owner Erin Biel says. "And since we're the original doctor bag manufacturer, they never go out of style."

All of Paolo's doctor-style bags are made from high quality leather from around the world and come in an endless variety of fashion colors Another cool aspect of the bags is the personalization factor. A customer can pick and choose any leather color and hardware, from plum to hot pink, and the company will make a bag fitted to your selected design. One customer had just come back from a safari and sent a zebra skin to the company to use for a bag he wanted to give his wife, says Biel. Bags can also be changed according to trends and seasons, such as rich purples and browns for the fall.

Celebrities such as Paris Hilton - she has two - and the Kardashians own a Designs by Paolo handbag. "She has good taste," Biel says of Paris. "She did pick one of my favorites."

 
While the company doesn't have a retail location, customers can schedule a tour of the West Chester factory and bag showroom. For those looking for the one-of-a-kind bag, the showroom is the route to go. "The factory has some really "funky ones" you won't find anywhere else," says Biel.
