Media Maven: Capturing Cincy’s Independent Spirit
Are you looking for a little independent entertainment? Our media maven checks out the Cincinnati World Cinema at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Did you know that we have a gold mine of alternative film opportunities right here in the Queen City?

Specifically, I am referring to our very own Cincinnati World Cinema (CWC).

CWC is an alternative film venue housed at the Cincinnati Art Museum. You will find unique films offering a wide variety of high quality independent international documentary and short films that I guarantee you won’t see at any local cinema.

Watching a movie presented by CWC is a unique experience in itself. My friend and director of CWC, Tim Swallow shared information with me for Cincy Chic readers.

Beginning April 22, the CWC will begin showing Oscar Shorts of 12 award-winning short films from places such as Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Poland, Russia and the United Kingdom. The films will cover genres such as drama, romance and comedy.

There are two separate programs at the CWC that run for about two hours. Each program consists of three live action and three animated shorts and includes an Oscar winning short, four Oscar-nominated films and a bonus short. Program A runs on April 22 and April 30. Program B runs April 23 and April 29.

All screenings begin at 7 p.m. at the Cincinnati Art Museum. Tickets are $7 for Art Museum members or $9 for adults.
