The Weekend Update May 1-3, 2009
Featured Artists: The Catacoustic Consort
The Catacoustic Consort presents a variety of vocal and instrumental music from Renaissance chamber music to Baroque opera, with the intent of recreating the sound of the music when it was originally performed. The music is performed on period instruments such as the viola da gamba, theorbo, organ, harpsichord, Baroque guitar, and lute. In addition to a historically informed approach to performing music, Catacoustic is dedicated to approaching music with an understanding of the life and times of when it was originally played, including an informed humanities presentation to accompany its programs. Some of the composers of early music include J.S. Bach, William Byrd, Giulio Caccini, and Boismortier. The Catacoustic Consort is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Visit their website here.
Friday May 1: First Friday Art Extravaganza!
Every first Friday of the month features a veritable smorgasborg of art. Covington hosts its Gallery Hop, Bellevue shops stay open late on Fairfield Ave with special offers ... and this month, Essex Art Studios is opening its doors for its quarterly open house. You can't go wrong with any of these great events - the tough part is choosing which one to attend. The hours are generally from 6-9 p.m. (though Essex goes until 11) and all events are free!
This month, Covington's Gallery Hop includes the following participating venues: Bean Haus Coffee Shop, Community Action Gallery, Julie's Inspiration Consignment Shoppe, Keystone Bar & Grill, MarX Gallery, The Morning Glory Bed & Breakfast, Motch Jewelers, Nordheim Gallery, Passionate Arts Center, Pike Street Café, Rising Star Studios and Encore!
Shop Bellevue has a flower theme this month, with a colorful gift for those who stroll down beautiful historic Fairfield Ave.
Essex Studios, which houses hundreds of artists, is a great place to see not only unique works of art, but to also meet their creators. This event happens on both Friday and Saturday.

There will also be a silent auction of great items, such as massage gift certificates, architectural consulting from Robert Sala, Interior Design from Clossens designer Erin Lombardi and much more. 3-5 p.m. Sunday May 3. $25 + donation for adults and $10 for children.
