I was the speaker at an InnerCircles women's networking event today . The topic I spoke about was "Marketing to Women." I discussed industry trends, and how we apply that information to what we do here at Cincy Chic. I told the audience I would publish the presentation on Cincy Chic. So click here to download it. For those of you who attended, thanks for coming and listening to me talk about this topic I'm very passionate about! My friend Elyse, who owns Venus a Fitness Studio for Her in Montgomery asked me to post this call for volunteers. Sounds like a really great event for an even better cause. Hope you can help! Please see below for more information:
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!!
For Fit to Fight Ovarian
Cancer to create awareness about Ovarian Cancer (www.fittofightoc.com)
Sunday July 18,
2010
AtMason Community Center and Corwin Nixon
Park.
The event features sprint triathlon,
duathlon and 5K events for women, men and kids.
We really need LOTS of volunteers for this event.
It is a great opportunity to have fun, see a triathlon/duathlon in action, and
help with a very important cause. Please distribute this to any friends,
family or groups that would be interested in helping or need community service
hours, like swim teams, track/cross country teams, boy scout/girl scout troops,
high school students, churches, synagogues, football/soccer teams, etc.
Anyone you can think of.
We need volunteers for the following jobs:
·giving out medals,
·time chip retrieval,
·water bottle distribution, and
directing to post race food, massage and vendor booths (7-10 people
needed),
·Registration/Packet Pick UP the
morning of the race (10-15 people needed),
·Hydration stations at transition
and in the middle of the run (5-8 people needed for each station=10-16
total),
·helping athletes transition from
water to transition zone, in and out of transition zone, on the bike and run
courses to direct athletes (20-30 people needed),

Studio for Her in Montgomery (9401 Montgomery Road, 45242)—note new location
and times
·And stuffing bags
On the sign up sheet there are times specified for the above jobs. The first race starts at 7:30 AM.
Athletes usually arrive about 1 hour
before the race due to the amount of set up they require. Therefore promptness
is really important. Because there are 3 separate start times
(the kids don’t start until 11), volunteers can be staggered throughout the
morning, however we need the numbers above for the adult races (until about
11:00).Then another smaller crew
can come in to refresh the group.Last year people were really burned out by the time the Kid’s event came
around, so having fresh bodies is really important.
This event is fast approaching so time is of the
essence. Please distribute this to as many people as you
can or even to your company. They can get great exposure!! Have
them contact me as soon as possible if they need more information. I need a final
head count by July 1st!! If you want to represent an organization you can wear
shirts representing your group while volunteering. We will try to group
you together.WE WILL PROVIDE FREE SHIRTS TO
ALL VOLUNTEERS!
Thank you for your efforts to provide volunteers. This is a
wonderful opportunity to provide community service and getting great exposure
for your organization!
Apparently, that's just one of five businesses she's started up in the past two decades, and that experience is what gave her the idea of a new TV show about budding business women.
She submitted her idea to the Oprah Winfrey Network and you can vote for her. Click here to read the Enquirer article about her, her idea and where to vote! Good luck Melissa!
A friend of mine Tracie Metzger who started Pink Ribbon Girls is up for an awesome award with Major League Baseball! Click here , then click on "Cincinnati Reds" and vote for her!
Please forward to anyone who you think might be interested. Thank you!

When I was a Spin instructor, I always told the girls in my class (especially when we were cranking out a big hill at the end of a long tough ride) "You get out of this what you put into it!" That always got them super motivated and I could see them push harder. They knew that if they wanted results, they had to work for them.
It's common sense, really. But everyone (including myself) tends to lose touch with that, especially in a day in age where there are so many quick fixes and so much instant gratification.
My husband has Rheumatoid Arthritis and had been experiencing more flare ups than usual. I did some research and learned that a healthy diet can greatly affect an RA sufferer's joint health. At the time, he was eating a lot of sugary/processed/fast food because it was convenient. I decided that I'd cook from scratch more often to ensure healthy, whole, and (when possible) organic foods were going into his system.
It was amazing... within two weeks, my husband was acting like a different person. He had more dexterity and much more energy. We got a YMCA membership (there's one just a couple blocks from our house) and we've been going together several times a week. In fact, he encourages me to get off the couch and go to the Y with him now!
Now that I have my bikini coutdown, I've been super dedicated to going to the Y, running with my friend Kimmy (click here for good running tunes!) and going to Bikini Bootcamp a couple times a week (happy to report I *did* get up for one 6am bootcamp last week)! I'm really proud of myself and I'm feeling a difference in how my clothes are feeling already.
One of my Bootcamp instructors, Johnnie Douglas, is actually in a fitness competition this upcoming weekend. I'm so proud of her... she looks amazing! I can actually remember when she took the classes with me several months ago and made the decision to enter this contest. She really dedicated herself to it... completely changed the way she ate and ramped up her fitness regime... and now she looks so chiseled!
It was good for me to see her go through this transformation right before my eyes. I look at the people who enter those contests and think they must just be freaks of nature who came out of the womb with 1% body fat and washboard abs. Now that I know Johnnie and how "normal" she was before, and how amazing she looks after several months of committed training, I see how one huge commitment can make a huge difference in a person's body.
With all of this, I'm realizing so many more truths in the one-liner I used to yell at my Spin class to get them to climb a hill faster. Whether it's food, a good workout, or commiting yourself to a fitness competition, you get out of it what you put into it.
That's right, my friend... bikini season is right around the corner.
All the cold weather - especially this last big snow storm - fooled me. In the fall, and even early winter, I was doing so good, running a couple times a week, spinning and going to Bikini Bootcamp religiously.
But I started layering on the sweaters and not wanting to get out of my warm bed to venture out into the cold weather just to work out. On top of that, my 6am spinning classes that I've been teaching for the past two years got canceled... which also meant that my free gym membership that came with being an instructor also went away. So, I got hit with a tri-fecta of hurdles that kept me from keeping up with my exercise routine.
But now that it's getting nicer out... and dare I say "spring-like"... I all the sudden came to the painful realization that it's almost bikini season! *gulp* That gave me even more reason to want to get back into the swing of going to my bikini bootcamps!
So I went, and of course got slack from my instructors Melissa and Johnnie. But that's good. Makes you realize that people notice when you're not there, and they hold you accountable! I learned that they also have weekday morning classes at 6am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I want to start making those, but I have yet to make it out of bed at the 5:15am I would need to get up at to make it to one!
I was talking to Melissa after class about how quickly bikini season (officially Memorial Day on May 31 when pools open) and she suggested I have an official countdown to bikini season, and have that be my motivation for coming to class more often! So, that's what I'm doing with this blog. I'm going to bookmark it and check back to this page whenever I need a little reminder for how long I have until the tiny bikini makes it's big debut (hopefully not a "big" debut though haha)! If you need a little motivation too, feel free to do the same! : ) Ok... now I need to go to bed so I can get up early enough and start this workout routine I'm blogging about! Oh, and I'm also going to post a pic of the bikini I just bought at Victoria's Secret... seeing this and the countdown is a sure fire way to get me to class now! 79 days and counting!!!
I’ve written about my struggle
with finding the perfect pair of jeans before. It’s something every
woman deals with on a regular basis. Or daily basis to be honest. I had
a skinny day yesterday and I’m having a put-me-in-a-muumuu day today.
So, the saga continues…
Today marks the end of a 17-year era, as the New York Fashion Week
event was held at Bryant Park for the last time. As I type, the park’s
famous tents are being torn down and packed up as the last Fall 2010
collection (Tommy Hilfiger) was presented a short while ago. The tents
will go up next year at Lincoln Center.
I’ve been keeping an eye on each collection as they live stream
video, fashion reporters report and style bloggers blog. It’s been very
exciting.
